#11 An English rugby journalist will write something stupid about the All Blacks.
English rugby is the richest in the world in terms of money and registered players. Unfortunately, they have only won one Rugby World Cup, which seems to drive some of their journalists around the u-bend.
Why this matters
It doesn’t really.
The Sunday Times’ Stephen Jones has warmed up with a not very sly dig at Brad Shields, a New Zealand-born and bred player now playing for England. Shields serves as a placeholder for the skill and pace game of the All Blacks, of which Mr Jones is not enamoured.
It’s a Brexit-quality opinion piece arguing that (Australian-born and bred) England coach Eddie Jones’ “England squad needs to be more brutal in the scrums and contact areas and driving mauls. The England pack needs to be the full English — bangers and mashers, with the opposition on toast.”
